Family Background
I, Sumitra Milind Chaure, am an Adivasi woman from Pimpalpada, Taluka Sakri, District Dhule. My family consists of four members – my husband, my two children, and me. I own 2.5 acres of land.
Occupation/Business Before Availing the Benefit:
Since my landholding is very small (2.5 acres), I grow maize, rice, and soybeans during the monsoon season and maize in the winter season. Additionally, I work as a farm laborer in the village.
Income Before Availing the Benefit:
From a total of 2.5 acres of land, I cultivate paddy and soybeans during the Kharif season, yielding 15 quintals of paddy at ₹1,300 per quintal, amounting to ₹24,000, and 4 quintals of soybean at ₹4,200 per quintal, totaling ₹16,800. In the Rabi season, I cultivate maize, producing 10 quintals at ₹1,800 per quintal, generating ₹18,000. This brings the total annual income from farming to ₹58,800. Additionally, I earn ₹12,000 from farm labor and ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 from sewing work. Combining all sources, my total annual income ranges from ₹74,800 to ₹75,800.
Month of Availing the Benefit:
September 2023
Main Reason for Availing the Benefit:
I belong to a small landholding family. My husband and I are engaged in farming, but due to insufficient land, we also work as laborers on others’ farms. Along with that, I have also completed a sewing course and stitch ladies’ garments.
Information Available While Availing the Benefit:
With financial support from NABARD and guidance from the Sanjivani organization, I have developed an orchard (fruit plantation) on one acre of farmland. Under this program, a village-level women’s self-help group was formed. After receiving information from the group, I applied for a grocery shop under the Women Development Initiative, and my application was approved by the committee.
Income from the Initiative:
I contributed ₹20,000 as my share, and a project fund of ₹30,000 was provided, making a total capital of ₹50,000. Through this business, I generate daily sales of ₹2,000, with an expenditure of ₹500, resulting in a daily profit of ₹500. This gives me a monthly income of ₹15,000.
Manogat (Reflection)
Due to the financial support and guidance provided by Sanjivani Sanstha and NABARD, I was able to start a grocery shop, which is now generating good income for me. Since I have employment at home itself, my husband and I can now manage both farming, tailoring work, and the grocery shop efficiently, ensuring a stable livelihood for our family. Our entire family is now living a happy and content life. For this, I am deeply grateful to Sanjivani Sanstha, the Village Development Committee, and NABARD.
