Introduction

With the help of the HDFC Bank’s CSR support SIED is implementing the HRDP project in Yavatmal District in 11 villages and Watkhed is one such village. In Watkhed one defunct water storage structure has been repaired. Water harvesting and storage structures have been found to be very effective and impactful in terms of the bringing more area under irrigation, increasing well water levels, ground water recharge, water availability for the domestic use, water availability for the other animals, birds, etc.

Pre-Intervention Condition

In Watkhed village of Ralegaon block, existing check dam which was on main Nala of village was defunct and it could not store water for a required period and the stored water was getting wasted in terms of the lickage. The location of the structure was very useful but it was defunct. The siltation issue was also there. All these together resulted in the fact that the structure was not serving the purpose.

Review of villagers about CD repair work

In our village check dam repair work is done by HDFC Bank’s CSR supported project which is being implemented by SIED. The repaired check dam is very useful for villagers. Because of this repair work near about 60-70 acres of area has got benefitted in terms of the irrigation water availability due to the recharged ground water. Even some of them can use water from check dam for irrigating their crops. It also helped to recharge of existing well of nearby area. After repair work, more water could be stored in check dam. The available water is useful for animals for drinking, for women for washing cloths etc. Main benefit for villagers is its help to recharge ground water which benefited for nearby well and that water now is use for irrigation. We are very happy and thankful to HDFC bank and SIED for their watershed development project.
