I am a resident of Khatada Amba village, part of Tornakudi. Earlier, we used to rely only on rain-fed farming. There was no water availability for Rabi and summer crops. After completing the monsoon crop, we had to migrate to other places for work for 5 to 6 months and then return home for the next monsoon season.
Before the start of the 2019 Kharif season, a meeting was conducted in our village under the Société Générale project through Sanjivani Sanstha and the Village Development Committee. In this meeting, we were informed about the nursery initiative. After discussing it with my family, we collectively decided to start a nursery.
We approached the Village Planning Committee, where my name was suggested for participation. We collected the required farmer contributions, and the nursery was allotted to us.
With the establishment of the nursery, we no longer need to migrate for work. The earnings from it have been sufficient to support our family. Additionally, we were able to dig a well, set up a pipeline for irrigation, and make improvements in farming. As a result, our annual income has increased to ₹2-3 lakh.
I am extremely grateful to Société Générale, Sanjivani Sanstha, and the Village Development Institution for their invaluable support.
