BACKGROUND
Khairkhunda is the last village of western direction in Sakri black of Dhulia district. The people of Kokani, Mavchi and Bhil community are residing here. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for entire community from village. This area is adjacent to Dang forest. Land is undulating and break into small piece of land. In this area rainfall is high but they faced water scarcity during rabbi season because of less recharge in ground water.
Major crop in Kharif season is paddy but in rabbi season there is very little cropping coverage due to water scarcity. Hence maximum families were migrating towards Navapur & Surat for wages
ACTION BY COMMUNITY INSTITUTION
Under Lakhpati Kisan project, there were total 22 SHGs formed and assisting for implementation of project. Under the guidance of SIED team, an apex of all these 22 SHG was formed which has named as Sainik Sanyukta Mahila Samiti which works as prime village institution in village.
After realizing the Agriculture situation, VO discussed and finalized to set a supplementary Agri business for supporting livelihood of their community and stops the migration. Accordingly, they found the way and finalized a women led dairy business. As this area is surrounded by forest there is sufficient grass available and they can manage to feed their cow or buffalo.
VO linked 9 SHGs to UMED programme and availed a loan of Rs. 1432000.00 for purchase of buffalo. Initially they formed one dairy in village. Started the business, as the time goes this business get more successful and now there are total 4 dairy available in village. Other women also purchased buffalos by seeing the results.
GURANTEED INCOME
Dairy business started with small amount of milk collection and now a day’s total milk collection is 120 liters per day. Milk supplied to cooperative dairy plant in Gujrat. They get assured rate of Milk up to Rs.55.00 per liter. Thus community is earning Rs.6600.00 per day. That means monthly 2 Lakh rupees came in their village as a supplementary source of income for supporting their livelihood.
Village Organization has now confidence of taking this business on large scale. They decided to approach UMED once again for getting loan to the balance SHG. Currently 114 women from 9 SHG are participated in this initiative. Now remaining 13 SHG members are also demanding to VO for availing loan from UMED. Thus in future we will see all 306 women from 22 SHG will participate in this revolution. VO is capable to take a lead for searching opportunities for any sort of developments in the village.
Regular capacity building of VO through trainings, meetings and exposures done by project team. We found the strong leadership developed in Sainik VO. We are happy to witness this type of “DHAVAL KRANTI” in tribal remote area.
