Area treatment work done in the farm of Mr. Jadhav village Nachanthav.
Introduction
Nachanthav, a small, interior and hilly village from Akole block of the Ahmenagar district. Water shortage, rain fed agriculture, low agricultural productivity, mounting debts, drought conditions, etc. became the limiting factors for the development of the village. In the Akole and Sangamner block Sanjeevani institute for empowerment and development (SIED) has implementing developmental work in 13 villages with the finance of HSBC since 2015 the project has been started under the title of “Regeneration of natural resources through participatory integrated watershed management in Akole and Sangamner block” under this project SIED has been implemented different developmental activities in the village from last two years for the overall holistic development of 13 villages.
Area Treatment work is one of the major activity to reduce soil erosion, hold water in the trenches and slow down water flow to enhance soil water absorption also improve water holding capacity, sustain soil moisture for long which helps to enhance agricultural production and sustain soil fertility.
Pre- Intervention Scenario
Mr. Ganesh Dattu Jadhav from Nachanthav village has 18 acre of land from that 10 acre land is under cultivation and remaining 8 acre land is barrel waste land which is sloppy, low fertile land. Maximum area of his land is under sloppy hence tones of soil is losses due to erosions, his land has slope to the east because of slope in rainy day’s soil erosion is takes place and tons of fertile soil loss done every year due to soil erosion it results to decline in soil fertility and it makes direct impact on crop production hence his total production is reduced and 8 acre land get uncultivable sloppy.
Water logging also big problem occurs in his farm because of sloppy land water stagnation is done in lower areas crop failure is done because of water logging condition. Because of water logging crops are affected by die back disease which makes big loss him and annual farm income is not satisfying in compare to his and his families heard work.
Rather, he uses his uncultivable land for the grazing of his livestock and earns some income by selling milk on dairy but his overall income is very low and faced financial issues in his daily life.
Post intervention review of Farmer
Mr. Ganesh Dattu Jadhav from Nachanthav, I am a farmer having 18 acre of land but some part of my farm is sloppy and because of sharp slope every year tons fertile soil loss takes place and my fertile land get unfertile year after year because of soil erosion. In rainy season water logging condition is occurs because of water stagnation in lower areas, where water logging take place and crop failure is done due to Die back which creates big loss near about 2 acres of plot losses due waterlog condition.
But because of area treatment work in Gat No 32 and 33 soil erosion is get reduced due to Excavation of farm bunds and water logging is reduced due to water ways now both problems of soil erosion and water logging in lower area is in control because of area treatment work. Now this year 3.5 acre of waste land comes under cultivation because of area treatment work carried out in my farm. In this 3.5 acre land cultivated Tomato vegetable which is very successful and got production of 32 tones and got Rs 14/ kg market price in average, total Rs. 4,48,000/- additional income got in 3.5 acre tomato plot which is came under cultivation after area treatment.
I understand the importance of Area treatment work while taking experience because of area treatment work my 3.5 acre of land came under cultivation, crop production also increased, problem of soil erosion on sloppy area get sorted out. I am thankful to HSBC and Sanjeevani Institute for their support and work.
Waste land comes under cultivation after area treatment, Cultivated plot of Tomato Vegetable in 3.5 acre land.
