BACKGROUND
Torankudi is a small village of 484 families in Sakri Black of Dhule District. All the families are tribal which comprises of Kokani & Bhill. Almost 98{038b2b3e44b954fbb5a578632dd23e5a9b4d5736be48a44755feb3a749ac40b4} families are depending on agriculture for their livelihood source. In Kharif season they take Paddy, Maize, Soyabean, Millet, and Vegetables. Also in rabbi season they grow Wheat, Bengal gram, lentil, Pea Vegetables. Those have less land holding are migrating towards Nashik, Surat for daily labors or some were get wages in the field where farming is possible in rabbi season. Average annual income of families reported 40-45 thousand before initiation of the Lakhpati Kisan project.
VILLAGE COMMITTEE ORGANIZATION PROCESS
In Torankudi village under the guidance of Sanjeevani Institute for Empowerment and Development (SIED), Societe Generale project was initiated in 2019 and after that from 2022 onwards Tata Trust supported Lakhpati Kisan- Phase 2 was started with active participation of community.
For implementing all these programe, SIED focus to establish strong community institution in village. As these program are women headed hence we need to focus for formation of Self Help Groups (SHG) at grass roots and an apex to control all these SHG at village level. From programme initiative 16 new SHG were formed and 12 old SHGs were reformed or restructured for active participation in project. Thus total 28 SHGs with membership of 338 women are ready to take over the project implementation in their hand. For better planning process an apex of all these 28 SHG was formed with equal representation. This apex is called as Village Organization and henceforth it has big stake in planning, monitoring of all program activities. This VO named as “Ekvira Mahila Samiti Torankudi” has started to show much interest in the project implementation right from beginning.
SIED has planned various trainings, meetings, internal /external exposures with this VO for their capacity building. Then the mission begins for making their farmers as Lakhpati Kisan.
WORK DONE BY EKVEERA VILLAGE ORGNAZATION
Right from beginning of the project Ekvira VO has participated in Planning of various activities, demand generation and monitoring during implementation. Different activities implemented and their key impacts are given in following table.
VO has decided to plan the works for access of irrigation to the needy and migrating farmers so that they can plan their second crop in their field. 298 HHs are getting benefit for access of irrigation on 413.5 acre.
Out of total 338 members from SHG we have covered total 319 HHs under adoption of various Package of Practices. 16 HHs are cultivating trellis vegetables on 3.62 acre. 44 new HHs added for drip and mulching, 253 HHs getting access of quality saplings from poly house nursery. Total 97 HHs has membership in FPC and till date 80 HHs get service from FPC through VO.
Besides Water availability & Agriculture works, VO planned for Livestock Development, Health- MHM, Education, Sanitation & Drinking water, linkages to Govt. schemes etc. VO participated in Multi – dynamic planning process and try to get benefit to maximum community residing in their village.
LOOKING FORWARD
Ekvira VO Torankudi has don splendid job for development of their village community and try to support each and every HH from village. They generated demand from village and recommended regularly with project team. With rigorous follow up action they can manage to take maximum works under their belt.
From this year onwards they decided to start vegetable and other agriculture produce center with support from FPC. They collect vegetables, grains and send to FPC for further marketing. They decided to increase FPC shares from village to increase potential for collective marketing.

“EARLIER WE FORMED SHGS, AND THAT TIME WE FEELS THAT OUR WORK IS LIMITED TO SHG ONLY. BUT CINI AND SANJEEVANI SANSTHA HAS REALIZED US THAT HOW WOMENS CAN DO THE VILLAGE DEVELOPMENTAL WORKS BY THEIR OWN. ALSO BOTH ORGANIZATION SUPPORTS US FOR OUR CAPACITY BUILDING. ONCE WE LOOK BACK WE FIND THAT LOT OF WORKS WERE COMPLETED UNDER THEIR LEADERSHIP. WE FEEL PROUD BY GETTING RESPECT AND HONOR FROM OUR VILLAGE PEOPLE.
