Family Background

I, Dawid Lalya Mavchi, have a small family of four members. Since I do not own farmland, my wife and I work as seasonal agricultural laborers. Additionally, I used to travel alone to Nashik for work, but this was not enough to sustain our family.

Occupation/Business Before Availing Benefits

I worked as an agricultural laborer and a vehicle driver. I also used to travel outside the village for labor work.

Income Before Availing Benefits

I worked as a driver on someone else’s transport vehicle in Nashik. I used to get work for about 18 to 20 days a month, earning around ₹7,000 per month. Since my children were young, my wife could not work, making it difficult to run the household on this limited income.

Month of Availing Benefits

    November 2022

Main Reason for Availing Benefits

There was no employment available in the village. Since my children were young, it was not feasible for one person to migrate for work. Family responsibilities were being neglected. I had the necessary skills to start a business.

Information Available Before Availing Benefits

There was no tea and vada pav snack center in the village. Since 2021, the TDF NABARD program has been running in the village. Under this program, a Village Planning Committee was formed. During one of its meetings, discussions were held about livelihood opportunities for landless individuals. After receiving information from committee members, I submitted an application to start a tea and vada pav shop. Once the committee approved my proposal, I contributed ₹15,000, and an additional ₹25,000 was granted from the project fund, making a total investment of ₹40,000 to establish the shop.

Income from the Initiative

From this business, I earn an average daily profit of ₹800 after deducting expenses. This amounts to a monthly income of ₹24,000.

Personal Thoughts

Since my children were young, I could not go out of the village for work. However, now that I have a shop in the village, my wife also helps in the business, and we can take care of our children as well. We are now living happily and are satisfied with our life.
