Pre- Intervention Scenario
Mr. Keshav Mohan Thoke is a farmer from Darhane village. His main occupation is farming and he has 3.5 acres irrigated land. Traditionally he used to cultivate different crops like Maize, Onion, Bajara and groundnut. With this cropping pattern and traditional approach of cultivation provide him a very low income i.e. (35,000/- per acre in average) from the agriculture. Of course high cost of cultivation, crop diseases, crop failures, crop loans, indebtedness and fluctuating market prices were other key factors that used to affect his profit level from agriculture and due to the changing climatic conditions, traditional farming methods, mono cropping, total agricultural production from agriculture was not up to expectations. The net profit after reducing the cost of cultivation which he got is very limited, even he unable to fulfill needs of his family. After getting information under Trellis vegetable cultivation project initiatives about different others crops which could be grown and which could give him more profit, he made up his mind to cultivate Indian Beans (Val) under improved trellis vegetable cultivation method.
